Every Zerno grinder is hand-assembled to order in our Chicago workshop. As your grinder moves through the build, you will receive an email at each stage.
What do the build stages mean?
| Stage | What is happening | Typical length |
|---|---|---|
| Stage 1: Order Confirmed | Your order and configuration are in our system and your place in line is set. | Right after you order |
| Stage 2: Production Planning | We schedule your grinder into an upcoming build batch and prepare parts for your configuration. | Usually 1 to 3 weeks |
| Stage 3: Queued for Build | Your grinder is machined, finished, and being assembled. | Usually 1 to 3 weeks |
| Stage 4: Order Lock and Review | A heads-up that your order is about to lock. This email includes your deadline for any final changes. | About 2 days |
| Stage 5: Preship and Dispatch | Final checks, testing, and packing before carrier pickup. | Usually 1 to 3 weeks |
As soon as the carrier picks up your order, you will receive an automated email with your tracking number.
My stage skipped ahead or seems to have gone backward. Is something wrong?
No. Stages never move backward. If an email or your order page looks out of order, it is a system update delay, usually because production moved faster than normal. If your stage emails and your order page disagree, email info@zerno.co with your order number and we will correct it.
I have not received my next stage email. Is my order delayed?
Not necessarily. Some stages last several weeks, so a quiet stretch between emails is normal. Your estimated dispatch is the best guide:
Z2: Every Z2 is a preorder and ships in the order it was placed. Our Z2 production timeline page shows the current estimated dispatch for each original order month, and we post updates on our Z2 production updates blog. We update both as soon as anything changes, so they are the most current source for your estimate.
Z1: Our official lead time is 30 to 60 days.
"Dispatch" means your grinder is in the process of leaving our workshop. Delivery time depends on your location (see Shipping Costs, Delivery Times, and Where We Ship).
Will changing my order affect my place in line?
No. Your dispatch estimate is tied to your original order date. If you change your color, burrs, or add-ons, you keep your place. The dispatch note you may see on the product page while editing applies to new orders only. Some changes carry a price difference. For example, Soft White carries a small upcharge for the extra Cerakote steps.
You can make changes yourself in your Zerno account until the deadline in your Stage 4 email. See Editing Your Order Before It Ships.
My order has been in Stage 5 for longer than 3 weeks. Did it ship?
Check your inbox and spam folder for a tracking email from the carrier. Tracking can take up to 12 hours to show movement after pickup. If you cannot find it, email info@zerno.co with your order number and we will send your tracking number.
If I cancel, can I get my place in line back later?
Your place in the build queue comes from your original order date, so it ends when an order is cancelled. If you order again later, the new order follows the lead time at that time. Preorder positions are also non-transferable.
We are happy to talk through your timeline and options. Cancellation terms are in Cancelling or Transferring an Order.
