If your Zerno Z1 was made before November 2025, the stainless steel grind chamber upgrade swaps out the original aluminum chamber in your Z1's front assembly. The install is straightforward, but the original chamber is often tighter than it looks.
Before you start
Unplug the grinder and open it (see Opening, Cleaning, and Closing Your Z1). Follow the video above for the full install. Set aside some time and a little patience for the first removal.
Removing the original chamber
- Pull the original chamber straight out, following the video.
- A snug fit is normal, especially if the chamber has never been removed. The chamber in the video was removed several times during filming, so it looks easier than a first removal usually is.
- Rotate slightly side to side while you pull straight out. That small twist helps break the initial grip.
- Keep the chamber square as it comes out. If it starts to tilt, ease it back and pull straight again.
Grease behind the old chamber
You may see grease around the motor shaft bearing behind the original chamber. This is normal. It is a food-safe lubricant used during assembly to help the bearing seat smoothly, and it never touches coffee in normal use.
You can leave it in place or wipe it off if grounds got into it. Either way, you do not need to add any back. The bearing does not need ongoing lubrication.
Installing the stainless chamber
- Wipe the mounting area clean.
- Press the stainless chamber straight into place, following the video.
- Close the grinder and reset your zero point (see Setting the Zero Point on Your Z1).
