The auger controls how beans feed into the burrs, which affects flavor and body. The Medium Feed comes standard and is the most consistent. The Slow Feed is for experimenting with grind distribution. If you are new to flat burrs, we recommend starting with the Medium Feed.
Tools: 2mm hex key. Time: 5 to 10 minutes.
- Turn the grinder OFF, unplug, and open it (see Opening, Cleaning, and Closing Your Z1).
- On the back face of the prebreaker assembly, remove the three screws with the 2mm hex key.
- Pull the auger straight out.
- Line up the new auger with the opening and gently push it into place.
- Reinstall the three screws until snug, not overtightened.
- Close the grinder and rezero (see Setting the Zero Point on Your Z1).
Stainless steel or aluminum? Grind performance is effectively the same, since feed consistency comes from the geometry. Stainless is more durable against rocks and debris, resists scratching, and slightly reduces static.
