A burr will not come off
Compacted grounds (from a long stretch between cleanings) or heat expansion (removing burrs before they have fully cooled) can hold a burr in place.
- Let the grinder cool, and brush away loose grounds around the burr carrier.
- Place the magnetic burr tools at 9 and 3 o'clock on the burr.
- Gently rock the tools side to side to separate the burr from the carrier. It moves a little at a time even when it feels like nothing is happening.
- Soft gloves can help you grip and rotate the burr slightly left and right before going back to the magnets.
- Once it releases, remove it normally and clean the carrier before reinstalling (see Changing Burrs on Your Z2).
If it still will not budge, email info@zerno.co with a photo before prying at it.
A light tapping or knocking sound at mid-range RPM
The rotating burr is not fully seated, usually because of a few grounds trapped underneath.
- Open the grinder (see Opening, Cleaning, and Closing Your Z2).
- Remove the rotating burr, clean the carrier, and carefully reseat the burr.
- Close the grinder and rezero (see Setting the Zero Point on Your Z2).

A bean is stuck between the funnel and the auger
Hold the switch down for 2 to 3 seconds to use Purge Mode, or turn the grinder on and off a couple of times. If needed, unplug, remove the front assembly, and dislodge the bean.
Beans bounce around in the funnel
This is called popcorning and depends on bean size, roast, and moisture. Pour beans in slowly rather than all at once.
