The grind dial is the numbered ring on the front of your Z2. Swapping it takes a few minutes with the tools that came with your grinder.
When you might need this
Owners swap the dial when:
The engraving on a section of the dial looks damaged and they received a replacement dial from us.
The dial is cosmetic and a small scratch will not impact performance.
Before you start
Unplug the grinder. Have the Wera 2.5mm hex screwdriver from your box ready. The dial is held by the zero point screw, so read Troubleshooting: Stuck or Stripped Zero Point Screw on the Z2 first if that screw has ever been hard to turn.
Swapping the dial
- Remove the wood accent from the front of the grinder.
- Loosen and remove the zero point screw with the 2.5mm driver, pressing straight in as you turn.
- Follow the video to lift the old dial off and seat the new one.
- Optional: apply a thin layer of grease where the old adjustment assembly had grease. It is not required, but it keeps the dial movement smooth. We use Nyogel 767A synthetic damping grease.
- Reinstall the zero point screw until it is snug and the dial sits firmly against the knob. Do not overtighten it.
- Replace the wood accent.
After the swap
Reset your zero point, since the dial position sets your zero reference. See Setting the Zero Point on Your Z2.
You are welcome to keep the old dial. If you do not want it, your local recycling center is the best place to dispose of it.
