Before any maintenance: turn the grinder OFF, unplug it, and toggle the switch 2 to 3 times to release any remaining charge. Then remove the cup, chute, and funnel.
Tools: 2.5mm screwdriver and cleaning brush. Time: 5 to 10 minutes for a regular clean, 15 to 20 minutes for a deep clean.
Opening the grinder
- Make sure the grinder is OFF and unplugged.
- Loosen the two front assembly screws at the 9 and 3 o'clock positions with the 2.5mm screwdriver. Support the adjustment assembly with one hand and pull the screws out. The assembly is heavy, so hold it securely.
- Set the front assembly burr-side up on a microfiber towel or other soft surface.
Cleaning
- Remove the funnel and tap it gently to release any beans or grounds.
- With the chute knocker in its resting position, pull the bottom section straight down without twisting. Then remove the rest of the chute from the body. Brush both parts clean.
- Brush the stationary burr (on the front assembly), the rotating burr (in the body), and the chamber around them. A small vacuum helps with stubborn grounds.
- Reinstall the knocker by lining up its alignment pin with the rear of the grinder. The magnets are strong, so watch your fingers.
For a deep clean, remove the burrs as well (see Changing Burrs on Your Z2) and clean the burr carriers.
Please do not clean the grease from the adjustment mechanism. It is designed to run lubricated.
Closing the grinder
- Make sure the outer ring of the adjustment assembly and the grind chamber are free of coffee grounds.
- Support the adjustment assembly with one hand and alternately tighten both screws until secure but not overtightened (recommended 1 Nm; a torque driver is not required).
- Make sure the surfaces sit flat and parallel before the final tightening.
- Set the dial above 200µm so the burrs are not touching.
- Rezero (see Setting the Zero Point on Your Z2).
Taking your Z2 apart does not affect its alignment. The parts are machined and matched as a set.
