A magnet in the Z1 stand centers your dosing cup under the chute. If your cup or a third-party shaker pushes away from that spot instead of snapping into place, the magnets are facing the wrong way.
Why it happens
The Z1 stand uses a south-up magnet. Some third-party shakers, including the standard Weber Workshops blind shaker, use the opposite polarity by default, so they repel instead of attract.
Using a Weber Workshops shaker
Weber sells a magnetless version of its shaker. You install the magnet yourself with a small amount of superglue, so you can match it to the Z1's south-up stand magnet.
Flip the stand magnet
If you want your shaker to seat and would rather change the stand, you can reverse the stand magnet at home.
- Dab a small amount of acetone around the stand magnet to loosen the adhesive. A damp towel with acetone left on it for a few minutes helps.
- Gently pry the magnet out with a flat edge that will not scratch the stand.
- Wipe the pocket clean so the new bond holds.
- Apply a small amount of cyanoacrylate glue (superglue) to the opposite side of the magnet.
- Press it back into the pocket with the flipped side down, hold firm pressure for about 30 seconds, and let it cure for a couple of hours.
The stand has a shallow pocket for the magnet, so you do not need to mark its position first. Keep in mind that flipping the stand magnet means the Zerno dosing cup will no longer seat.
